
In literature, as in life, a character may search for a better way of life. One of the character in the book Rasin in the Sun by Lorrain Hansberry that is searching for a better way of life is Beneatha. She tries to find her true identity and who she really is. In the book, page 62 Beneatha says, " You see, Mr.Asagai, I am looking for my identity!" Beneatha doesn't like her boyfriend, George but actually doesn't realize that she is closer to Asagai. She disires to be a Doctor no matter what situation she is in. In the book, they meet each other, and Asagai has bought her a Nigerian clothes. They discuss about how Africa is. She hopes to gain her real identity.
The other person who is searching for a better way of life is Mama Lena. In page 91, it says that Mama has bought Travis a house. Mama wants her family to be happy and actually want them to move into the world and wants Travis and Beneatha to be well educated. In page 44 she says "I aint rightly decided. Some of it got to be put away for Beneatha and her schoolin'-- and aint nothing going to touch that part of it. Nothing." Lena Younger ( Mama) wants to fullfill her dreams for her family to move up to the world. Mama wants to gain happiness and a peaceful life. She discuss a lot about how she would use her money, for it to be used it something special and useful which she later ended up buying a house with a backyard where many white people lives and made her dream come true. She wants the best for the family.
